Preventative Dentistry
A smile to last a lifetime
Preventive dental care and the cornerstone of maintaining optimal oral health and our team at WYP Dental is here to help you achieve this. We like to describe your routine dental check-up and clean like sending your car in for its regular logbook service. A well serviced car lasts longer, looks better and performs smoother and more efficiently than a non-serviced one. Small problems can also be detected and fixed sooner to avoid bigger and most costly problems down the track. Here at WYP Dental, we are big believers of investing in your greatest asset – your health. Stick to good habits, and your teeth will serve you well for a lifetime.
Prevent oral diseases for life
Tooth decay and gum disease is the most common disease that affects people of all ages. These problems stem from uncontrolled amounts bacteria that colonise the surfaces of your mouth, teeth and tongue and can be exacerbated by sugar and acids in your diet, poor oral hygiene practices and smoking.
Oral diseases are also linked to many general health problems such as poorer blood sugar control and diabetes, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, premature birth and infection of heart valves (infective endocarditis) that can be life threatening!
The good news is that most oral health diseases are highly preventable. A good diet, oral hygiene routine (including brushing and flossing twice a day) and regular visits to your dentist will ensure that your pearly whites stay in tip top shape. Regular checks with your dentist also allows for the early detection of problems, where early treatment is almost always associated with better outcomes, less discomfort and less cost!
How often should I see my dentist?
As a general rule of thumb, it is recommended that you see your dentist for a check and clean every 6 – 12 months. This interval may be shorter or longer depending on your individual situation and oral health conditions. Many health insurances also partially or fully cover two visits to the dentist. WYP Dental is a HCF and Bupa preferred provider (Preston clinic only) and can offer these patients a biannual check up and clean with minimal to no out of pocket fees. For everyone else, our standard fee is $195 before any rebates from your health fund (for a standard check up and clean).
